In your letter P.508 of March 9th. last a copy

of a despatch was enclosed which had been addreuned

by the Marquess of Crewe to the Governor General of

India auking for His Excellmey's observations on the

letter from this Office of January Slat. reupecting

the registration and prosection in China of British

Subjects of Chinese descent.

whether any reply has yet been received from the

Government of India, as it is desired to answer

Sir John Jordan's despatch No.399 of November 27th.
